I had a unique opportunity to interview one of my favorite podcast novelists: J.C. Hutchins.  In the course of our conversation he lets us in on a lot of the behind the scenes type business he’s been going through for the past few years.

Also, we take a look at Keith Burtis‘ gift to JC.  Keith’s gift was a turned sculture that depicted a scene within JC’s 7th Son Trilogy.  Check out the pics of it below!

JC’s book 7th Son: Descent made it to store shelves in print last week.  Please stop by his website and order your copy today.

JC Hutchins’ 7th Son Descent

As some of you know through following me on Twitter (@SplinteredBoard) I subscribe to around 150 podcasts.  Many of them have been podcasted books.  Still, many are periodicals (woodworking podcasts, news feeds, etc.).

The podcasting authors have been having increasingly great success lately.  What tips the scales in their favor?  Energy, and a good story.

After listening to about 25 or 30 podcast books, a few names come to mind that keep delivering on both the ‘Energy’ and ‘A Good Story’ themes.  Scott Sigler, Seth Harwood, Phil Rossi, Mur Lafferty and Tee Morris all come to mind immediately.

But one that has kept my ears busy with a great trilogy, fan content, prequel stories, and more is JC Hutchins.  JC’s 7th Son trilogy is an epic tale of mystery, deception, adventure, and technology.

7th Son: Descent, the first novel in the trilogy, has been available in podcast form for a few years now.  JC is presently re-casting it with new content from the actual hard-copy book.  The new re-cast is only 3 episodes in, and I’ve got to tell ya, this new content is already getting good!

7th Son: Descent goes on sale TODAY at Amazon.  Please take a listen to JC’s work, and support his book.

You can get a free 10 chapter preview of 7th Son: Descent here. That’s 128 pages FREE!!!

JC Hutchins also has an excellent trans-media book, Personal Effects: Dark Art, available on Amazon.  It’s a horror experience taken to a another level.  There’s not another book out there like it!

PS. We’re going to have JC on the show next week, so be on the lookout for a non-woodworking related podcast. Should be a real treat!

Dale Barnard is the owner of Barnard Woodworking School in Paoli, IN. I had the privilege of meeting Dale during the Woodworking in America conference in St. Charles, IL. I met Dale while at lunch on the first day of the conference, and we quickly decided to record an interview about Dale and his school.

Please excuse the background noise, this interview was conducted in the Market Place and there were a lot of people walking around, and children playing nearby. I tried to reduce the noise to a minimum, but it’s never the greatest.

Please visit Dale’s website and consider attending his woodworking school.

Note: During the interview I asked Dale if the Saw Stop saves him on insurance. He tells me in the interview that it does, but later he called me to let me know that they do not receive a discount on insurance.
